Hello, my name is Emily and I'm the woman behind the brand.
I am a partner, dog mum and a first time mum to my daughter Foxx, now 2.5years old. Foxx is the little firecracker that inspired me and led me to launch Mama's Milk.
While pregnant I knew I wanted to breastfeed, but that was about it. My local breastfeeding group wasn't running due to staff shortages and at the time I didn't think much of it. But it's certainly fair to say we had a pretty difficult start to our breastfeeding journey.
It wasn't until Foxx was 16 weeks old that I was finally able to nurse her pain-free for the first time.
I found there to be a distinct lack of support available for breastfeeding women from all health professionals, and the role of a Lactation Consultant was something I hadn't heard of at the time.
This was all new to me.
While nursing I struggled through many common hurdles such as mastitis and poor latch as well as some lesser known ones like Raynaud's, and a whole spectrum of other things in between.
As a result of these struggles I was forced to learn a lot! I did this through independent research, reaching out to other breastfeeding mums in online communities and social media, and connecting with Lactation Consultants all around the world.
At the beginning of 2019 I started voluntarily supporting other women on their breastfeeding journeys and have since helped over 300 mothers to nurse their babies and overcome a huge range of problems.
On my personal Instagram page I started running a weekly Q&A every Monday about all things breastfeeding; using the hashtag #mamasmilkmonday. This started to snowball and I have since set up a new instagram page specifically for Mama's Milk (@mamas.milk) where I now continue to run this weekly Q&A as well as posting informative and helpful hints, hacks, tips and facts.
Breastfeeding has become a huge passion of mine and I have also now enrolled back in to education as a Lactation Consultant in training with the view to taking my IBCLC exams once qualified.
I fiercely believe that all breastfeeding, guidance and support should be delivered for free to pre and postnatal women and it is my mission to continue this work voluntarily for as long as I am able.
And so Mama's Milk Breastfeeding Accessories was born.
Mama's Milk enables me to work within the breastfeeding world but to continue to provide help and support for free to women who need it.
